All the World's a Stage
I've said the phrase 'I can't. I have a rehearsal.' more times than I can count. I spend most of my time learning lines, doing vocal warm ups, and going to the theatre. I've been performing for around 14 years and I can't imagine stopping for a long time into the future.
I just finished a show 2 weeks ago and unfortunately there was an extremely low turnout. We only had around 60 audience members per show in a theatre that fits 500 people. This wasn’t for lack of a good show (although I do hold some bias) but merely due to the fact that not many people want to go to the theatre anymore.
This has inspired me to be more active in the theatre world. It is important that people involve themselves in the arts and I believe that the more people are exposed to news about the arts and theatre the more they can enjoy it.
I plan to report both about theatre and entertainment in Malta and theatre and entertainment around the world. This is because Maltese entertainment is heavily influenced by foreign entertainment. Malta is on the verge of being host to the European Capital of Culture – Valletta 2018. This means that they’ll be plenty of buzz around the entertainment world not just for the next year but hopefully for many years to come. I’ll also be looking into Maltese actors and Maltese theatre companies and they’re effect on society.
I’m taking on this subject not just because it interests me but also because there aren’t many people who do. There is only one certified theatre journalist in Malta and although she does her job incredibly well, I believe we do need more theatre journalists on our small island.
